The National Youth Company Corps has lamented that inmates in the services of the Nigerian Correctional Service feed much better than corps associates.
The Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier Standard Shuaibu Ibrahim, who said this when he appeared right before the Dwelling Committee on Youth Progress for price range defence on Wednesday, reported corps customers had been served a food worth N217,
He, therefore, urged the Residence of Associates to elevate the allocation for feeding in the scheme’s price range for 2022.
The Senate Committee on Inside experienced on October 27, 2021, enhanced the day by day feeding allowance of the Nigerian Correctional Service from its latest N450 for every particular person to a minimal of N1,000 per working day.
Officers of the NCS have been in the Senate to protect the 2022 spending budget of the Company, where by they proposed an increment of the day-to-day feeding allowance to N750.
The committee, nevertheless, explained the volume as grossly insufficient and amplified it in line with the current economic realities, pledging to undertake an upward overview of inmates’ feeding price from N450 to N1000 for every day.
In his presentation, Ibrahim, who mentioned that it was his initial ritual of presentation of the finances to the committee, reported the spending budget of the NYSC remained the exact over the many years.
The DG reported, “The only issue that I will notify you listed here is that occasionally last calendar year, I promised the committee at the NYSC, we are putting on our imagining cap, that I really don’t want us to usually go cap in hand begging for funds so that, at the very least, we should do a little something to deliver profits to the desk. This I did past calendar year and we generated above N280m which we paid out into the Federation Account.
Ibrahim ongoing, “Our obstacle is in the place of feeding. The budgetary acceptance for feeding for each corps member is N650, which is grossly insufficient. By the time you divide it by 3 meals (for every working day), that is N216 for every food. So, we are interesting to this committee to make sure you assist us out.
“Even just lately, at the Ministry of Interior, the feeding of prisoners was increased to N1,000. So, if we can feed criminals with N1,000, our graduates are placing their life in the support of our country…I pray that this committee should make sure you do a little something about it.”
The Chairman of the committee, Yemi Adaramodu, earlier in his opening remarks, noted that the NYSC experienced overhead charges as it was not a revenue-producing agency but just one that manages men and women, in particular young Nigerians.
