OHIO journalism alumna becomes first lawyer in family

Even though she wasn’t born into a spouse and children of legal professionals, Ohio College alumna and very first-technology attorney Malindi Robinson is now serving as authorized counsel to the governor of North Carolina.
“I was not contemplating about regulation school during my time at OHIO,” Robinson said. “I assumed possibly I needed to be an artist or a thing like that and even considered going to art college.”
Robinson, a Cincinnati native, graduated from OHIO in 2016 with a journalism diploma. Shortly after graduation, she enrolled in the College of North Carolina School of Law, wherever she graduated in 2020. After passing the North Carolina Bar Exam, she was hired as an affiliate counsel for North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper. As an affiliate counsel, Robinson functions with a tiny crew of legal professionals to advise Cooper and other point out federal government organizations on different legal issues.

She was included in the Black Regulation Pupil Affiliation and the 1L Mock Demo Workforce — which went on to gain the Black Legislation Scholar Association Southern Regional Mock Demo Level of competition and advance to the nationwide quarterfinals.
“My initially 12 months, I was the only Black female in my faculty and in my courses,” Robinson reported. “That designed me come to be incredibly active in a whole lot of Black university student groups and initiatives that were being at the law college.”
Her journey at legislation college wasn’t without the need of its difficulties. Just before her 2nd year, Robinson’s sister was murdered. In the midst of personal tragedy, she regarded dropping out of law school totally, but deep down she knew it was not an choice.
