Westmoreland County to boost program to help jail inmates re-enter society

Instituted two months before the pandemic restricted access to the jail, the county’s reentry program was envisioned to aid inmates about to leave the jail by offering support to aid obtain work, coordinating expert services these as drug and liquor treatment method, encouraging with referrals to other wanted social company courses and providing an outline of how to move forward with probation and parole to lessen the likelihood of a return to confinement.

Officials reported the system will give inmates a leg up in re-acclimating to their lifestyle once out of jail.

The software is open to inmates who have served a 90-working day jail sentence or extended and rank as a reduced or moderate amount to reoffend.

Given that its inception, just 39 inmates ended up assessed and 23 inmates had been considered eligible to participate. Only 12 inmates have finished the program effectively and none has reoffended, officials said.
